What happens to my community if the license lapses?

Hypothetically, if my Pro license lapses, do the Pro features just stop, or does anything risk breaking? Want to understand the downgrade path before I commit.

One caveat for larger communities: keep an eye on the indexes. At a few thousand rows the difference is night and day.
